When the Hutcheson's purchased the 25 acres on the side of Jenkins Mountain, it was nothing but trees and 'man-eating briars.' A road had to be constructed before they could even begin doing anything else. The property was purchased in 1981 before construction began on the house.

After seeing a house they liked in Marion, Virginia, they approached Kamal Amin, a former student of Frank Lloyd Wright, to design the house. Kamal, from Cairo, Egypt, designed the house to be built in two stages. The first stage required nearly a year to complete and the second demanded another year and a half. It was 1986 before the final work was done. When the last nail was in place, they had created a showplace; one that was balanced with its setting, yet provided room to raise a family. When their children had gone, friends and family suggested they turn the property into a bed and breakfast.

The decision that Mr. and Mrs. Hutcheson made proves to be a great one. Sunset Hills Farm is not only beautiful, but it enjoys an excellent geographical location: it takes only minutes to drive to the quaint shops and restaurants in the area. A drive over the mountains to the west will take you to Luray, home of the world famous Luray Caverns. To the North are Front Royal, the beginning of the Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. The northeast is the Virginia Hunt Country. Washington DC is just an hour away. If you want to have a real enjoyable sightseeing weekend, don't you think this is a convenient place to go?
